All about the internship

Who can apply for an internship?

We offer internships for pupils, students and retrainees. Information on internships at Dresden University Hospital can be found in the section on junior staff programmes under the heading Internship.

What is the minimum/maximum duration for internships?

Internships for school pupils usually last two weeks. In the case of internships as part of a degree programme, the duration depends on the respective university's study regulations, usually between one and six months. The internship for professional orientation in nursing is intended for a period of at least one to a maximum of three months.

Does Dresden University Hospital also offer holiday work?

No, unfortunately we do not offer holiday work.

All about apprenticeships

How do I find the right apprenticeship for me?

Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions in life. Find out what your gifts and talents are and decide where you can best utilise your strengths. Find out all you can about the various training options and career paths, taking into account your wishes and expectations of the profession. If you are not sure, you can contact the people responsible for the respective apprenticeships to obtain detailed information.

What apprenticeships are available?

We offer numerous training programmes in the medical, nursing, therapeutic and commercial fields. You can find out more about our wide range of training programmes in the Training and Study sections.

When is the right time to apply?

You can apply for a training place with us one year before the start of training - i.e. in September of the previous year. Applications are accepted until all training places have been filled. You should therefore apply as early as possible. The ‘Vacancies’ section lists all apprenticeships for which applications are currently being accepted.

Can I apply for more than one apprenticeship?

In principle, it is possible to apply for several apprenticeships at the same time. However, you should choose a specialisation that best suits your skills and interests.

When does the apprenticeship start?

Training usually begins after the summer holidays. All training professions offered at the Carus Academy start on 1 September. Training in nursing starts twice a year. One class begins training in March and three others in September.

Who will look after me during my training?

During your training at Dresden University Hospital, you will be supported by a number of contact persons who will be happy to help you with any questions or problems you may have (departmental or training supervisors, practical instructors, a youth and trainee representative body (JAV) and the employees in the various areas of work).

If I have to move for my training, will the UKD provide me with a flat or do I have to organise it myself?

If you have to move to Dresden, we offer furnished rooms for rent in our staff residence. However, as capacity is limited, you should inform us immediately if you need a room. You can ask for more information during your interview.

How good are the chances of being taken on after training?

Due to the positive development of Dresden University Hospital and the constant need for medical and nursing staff, we are very interested in employing our trainees after they have successfully completed their training. However, we cannot guarantee that you will be taken on in all training occupations.
