A PhD position for the period of 36 months starting on November 1st 2025 in the “Gastrointestinal stem cell and cancer biology” laboratory (PI Daniel E. Stange). Payment is based on the regulations of the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L).
Our research group is looking for a highly motivated and talented PhD student who would like to join our interdisciplinary team at Dresden University of Technology. Our group is part of the scientific community at the University Hospital Dresden and works closely together with the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) and German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) as well as different collaboration partners all over the world. The main topics of our group are patient-derived tumor organoids from gastrointestinal tumors and genetically engineered mouse models. The project will focus on the one hand on the role of inflammation in gastric tumorigenesis and on the other hand investigate the clonal selection process during cancer development.
Requires all your skills – your challenge:
- Planning, conducting and evaluating experiments based on biochemic, molecular and cell biologic experiments
- Working with different organoid models and laboratory animals
- Familiarization with new experimental methods
- Independent planning of experiments in close cooperation with the project team
- Active participation in seminars and internal laboratory meetings
- Presentation of own results within the working group, the institute, and at national and international conferences
- Preparation of research results for publication and participation in the acquisition of third-party funding
A perfect fit – your profile:
- Completed master's degree in biochemistry, biology, biotechnology or a related field
- Practical experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology
- High motivation to research molecular mechanisms in a science-enthusiastic team
- Interest in working with murine model systems and human organoids
- Extensive experiences in cell culture and molecular biologic methods
- Experience in the use of the CRISPR/Cas9 system would be desirable
- Very good written and spoken English skills
- Experience in using Microsoft Office and graphics programs as well as bioinformatic databases (i.e. protein and gene databases)
