PhD Position (m/f/d)

in "Maschine Learning and AI in clinical diagnostics and biomedical research"

 

The position is to be filled as soon as possible on a part-time basis for a fixed term of 12 months. The aim is to continue working together for a longer period. The salary is based on the provisions of the public sector collective agreement for the federal states (TV-L) and is possible in the E13 TV-L salary group if the personal requirements are met.

The Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IKL) has the important task of ensuring laboratory diagnostics at a high level as an accredited institution within the framework of patient care and clinical studies for the university hospital, the medical faculty, and cooperation partners. At the same time, the IKL sees itself as a cooperation partner in the design of a central information and communication platform for issues of laboratory diagnostics in the context of patient care at the institutes of the clinic and the medical faculty.

 

Requires all your skills -  your challenge:

You will work in a multidisciplinary, international environment of researchers, scientists, and physicians to develop innovative computational methods to research molecular disease mechanisms so that patients can quickly benefit from high-tech medicine. To this end, you will work in the CIOBio research group of Dr. Josch Konstantin Pauling. Here, we research and develop highly innovative computational methods for precise patient stratification and molecular subtyping for improved and individually optimized healthcare.

In current projects, you will contribute to the design, development, and implementation of machine learning methods and artificial intelligence in clinical diagnostics and biomedical research. This includes the application of classical statistical methods for the preparation and analysis of raw data from various OMICs fields, as well as the development of innovative methods in machine learning and artificial intelligence for the integration and data mining of large, multimodal data sources. You will greatly deepen your scientific profile in computational biomedicine and publish research results in highly recognized international journals. You will give conference presentations and participate in teaching formats such as lectures and seminars of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine.

 

Perfect fit - your profile:

 

  • Successfully completed university degree, preferably in the fields of bioinformatics, computational biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, biomedicine, or comparable qualification

  • Very good knowledge of software engineering (web services), as well as scientific data analysis of biological data/biological data science

  • Very good programming skills in Python and PyTorch, as well as R. Knowledge of Java is an advantage

  • Good knowledge of machine learning, large language models, and containers

  • Basic knowledge of the measurement methodology of various OMICS technologies, particularly sequencing technologies and mass spectrometry, including respective raw data analysis

  • General proficiency in molecular biology/medicine

  • Theoretical know-how, as well as basic knowledge in the planning and implementation of scientific projects, project coordination, and project management

  • Very good English language skills, written and spoken
