Research Assistant
at the Else Kröner Fresenius Center
The position is to be filled as of May 1, 2025 on a full-time or part-time basis, initially for a limited period of 24 months.
The Else Kröner-Fresenius Center for Digital Health, a joint center of the Carl Gustav Carus Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Dresden and the Dresden University Hospital, promotes translational and interdisciplinary research in the field of digital medicine and health. The center, funded by the Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation, cooperates closely with many high-tech specialists in Dresden's research environment and is intended to strengthen and promote collaboration with university medicine. Technical innovations should benefit patients even more quickly.
We are looking for a highly motivated electronics or electrochemical engineer to help us improve the performance of implanted electrode arrays. The Electronic Tissue Technologies research group led by Prof. Ivan Minev develops bioelectronic systems for recording and stimulating the nervous system. We take a holistic approach, starting with materials and devices through to system integration and testing in preclinical models. We work with clinicians and neuroscientists. Technical innovations should benefit patients even more quickly.
As part of the 2nd funding phase of the third-party funded project 'Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Digital Health', sub-project "Professorship of Electronic Tissue Technologies", as well as in the ERC Proof of Concept COATARRAY, your work includes the implementation of research projects with a focus on research into electronic tissue technologies and bioelectronics. They develop and apply electropolymerization processes to create coatings of soft materials on neuronal electrodes. They use electrochemical methods such as cyclic voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy to test the performance of the coatings. Additionally, you will design and execute various testing protocols, such as accelerated aging, device sterilization, and cytocompatibility testing. You will publish your research results in specialist journals and present them at conferences and in lectures. Another part of your tasks is the acquisition and acquisition of third-party funded projects, for which you actively promote research, the formation of consortiums and the submission of applications. In addition, you will participate in various teaching formats of the Professorship of Electronic Tissue Technologies and the EKFZ, especially in lectures and seminars. These tasks offer you the opportunity to actively contribute to the further development of electronic tissue technologies.
Your Profile:
- University degree in electrical engineering, chemistry or a related field
- A doctorate in one of these or a subject area is an advantage, but not a requirement
- Experience with electrical engineering measurements, electrode design or characterization
- Demonstrated interest in bioelectronic medicine, neuroprosthetics or brain-machine interfaces
- Very good written and spoken English skills, scientific knowledge to understand research content and communication with scientists
- Experience in interdisciplinary work in a clinical environment, in interprofessional and solution-oriented work
- Initial experience in conducting research projects
We offer you:
- Implementation of your own ideas and work in an innovative interdisciplinary team
- Agreeing on flexible working hours to make the combination of family and work a reality
- Care for your children through partnerships with children's facilities near the University Hospital
