This PhD project focuses on the translation of prompt gamma-based verification of proton therapy into clinical application. Of central importance are the contributions to the preparation and implementation of the DEPICT study, in which the procedure is being used prospectively for the first time and the verification triggers an immediate intervention (control CT scan). To this end, you will work on refining methods for the automatic identification and classification of clinically relevant deviations during irradiation. You will also plan, carry out and evaluate phantom experiments. An essential part of your work will also be scientific publication activities, which include publication in specialist journals and the presentation of research results at scientific conferences. In addition, you will develop and implement project ideas and actively contribute to projects at the interface between clinical practice and research, particularly in the field of online adaptive proton therapy. The ultimate goal of your work will be the preparation of a dissertation as part of your doctorate, in which you will bring together all the knowledge and experience gained and show further research perspectives.
