Voluntary services

Do you want to pursue meaningful work after leaving school or reorientate yourself professionally? In a federal voluntary service or a voluntary social year, you can make effective use of the time after leaving school to gain initial work experience and get involved in a social environment. 

Voluntary service is the ideal preparation for training or studying in the nursing or medical field. In addition to gaining experience in the areas of the University Hospital Dresden, we offer information events for career orientation to support you on your next steps into professional life.

What are the requirements for voluntary service?

  • Completion of compulsory schooling (9 years)
  • Between the ages of 16 and 25
  • Ability to work in a team and reliability
  • A sense of responsibility and punctuality
  • You are interested in working in a maximum care hospital

Federal Voluntary Service

Support Dresden University Hospital with your talents and commitment and get the chance to learn a lot about yourself and how to deal with other people in a dynamic team.

The minimum period of service is 6 months and the maximum 12 months.

Our areas of work

  • Nursing areas (inpatient and operative)
  • Medical functional areas
  • Medical-technical areas (laboratory and pharmacy)
  • Logistics area
  • Administrative areas


Benefits & remuneration

  • Monthly remuneration of 580 euros (in the first 6 months) and 650 euros (from the 7th to the 12th month)
  • 20 days of holiday per 12 months (for minors in accordance with JArbSchG)
  • 25 seminar days

The BFD regularly begins on 1 September each year. However, we also offer the option of starting on the first of a different month.

Voluntary social year

Support Dresden University Hospital with your talents and commitment and get the chance to learn a lot about yourself and how to deal with other people in a dynamic team.

The minimum period of work is 6 months and the maximum 12 months.

Our areas of work

  • Surgical nursing (surgery and operating theatres)
  • Stationary nursing (internal medicine or paediatrics and gynaecology)

Benefits and remuneration

  • Receipt of a monthly allowance of €400
  • 26 days of holiday per 12 months (for minors according to JArbSchG)
  • Participation in internal and external training and further education programmes
  • 25 seminar days

The FSJ regularly begins on 1 September each year. A later start is possible on the first of each month until 1 March at the latest.
