PhD candidate (f/m/d) in Tumor Immunology

in the Department of Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery

 

 

 

The part-time position (26 hours per week) is available at the earliest possible date, and is limited to three years. Salary is based on the provisions of the applicable labour agreement. Depending on the personal requirements, classification in pay grade E13 is possible.

 

The Department of Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital Dresden is one of the leading surgical departments for cancer treatment in Europe. It is embedded into the framework of the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT/UCC Dresden), which provides an excellent network for translational oncological research and the possibility to share state of the art methods and platforms.

 

Our group is interested in numerous aspects of the biology and immunologic interactions in the tumor microenvironment in murine and human gastric cancer. We are analyzing the role of different immune cell subsets in tumor initiation and tumor growth using patient-derived organoid systems. Within this BMBF funded project we will perform a comprehensive analysis of the immune metabolism in gastric cancer-infiltrating T cells. Further information can be found on the lab homepage.

Your responsibilities:

 

  • Establishment and execution of experimental work (organoid cultures, cell culture, flow cytometry, histological, immunohistological and molecular analyses, as well as in vivo mouse experiments)

  • Analysis, documentation and presentation of research results (manuscript preparation, scientific presentations)

  • Independent scientific qualification and publication of research findings

  • Supervision and mentoring of students and trainees

  • Organization and administrative project tasks (project meetings, reporting, support with financial reports and final project reports)

 

Your profile:

 

  • Diploma thesis or Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine or related fields
  • Previous experience with basic biochemical and immunological techniques is essential
  • High motivation and strong interest in tumor immunology
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Enthusiasm for working in an ambitious, multi-disciplinary research group
