Join our interdisciplinary research team as a PhD student in cardiovascular biology. This three-year project investigates the role of microvascular cells in the development and progression of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).
The position comprises 65 % of the full-time weekly hours. The position is limited to 3 years. The period of employment is governed by the German Act on Fixed-Term Scientific Contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). Depending on the personal requirements, classification in pay grade E13 is possible.
The position offers the opportunity to pursue a PhD degree.
Your Responsibilities:
- Conduct molecular biological, protein biochemistry, histology, and cell biological analyses using blood, tissue, and primary cells
- Establish, maintain, and expand a Biobank
- Perform analyses using ELISA, flow cytometry, and state-of-the-art omics technologies, including transcriptomics, metabolomics, and spatial omics
- Establish and further develop innovative methods based on current scientific literature
- Supervise and provide practical guidance to medical doctoral students and contribute to the preparation of scientific publications and conference presentations
- Collaborate with national and international research partners, utilize core facilities, and participate in scientific conferences
Your Profile:
- Successfully completed university degree (Master's/M.Sc./Diploma or equivalent) in the life sciences, such as Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a comparable natural sciences discipline
- Willingness to pursue a PhD is required
- Practical experience with cell biology, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and microscopy techniques
- Proficiency in scientific literature research, particularly using PubMed
- Excellent written and spoken English skills and the ability to present scientific results
- Experience with structured laboratory record-keeping and scientific documentation according to established standards
- Knowledge of the principles of Good Scientific Practice (GSP)
- Independent, careful, and well-structured working style, combined with strong teamwork and communication skills
